Different teachers have different strengths.
Of course you will want to feel comfortable with the teacher.
It is normally useful that the teacher is patient, positive and supportive of you and your development and
respectful to you as a person.
Generally it is better if the teacher is a skilled player already.
Hopefully a good player knows how to help you become a good player.
But there are good players who are not good teachers!
Relevant qualifications are valuable but not everything.
They show that the guitar teacher has worked hard and been ackowledged to have achieved a particular standard.
However there can be good players and good teachers without qualifications. What to look for in a teacher
In my humble opinion the following is a useful but not definitive list:
- Patient, positive and supportive
- Qualified with relevant qualifications
- Good Guitar Player
- Experienced player and teacher
- Reasonably well organised
- Loves music and guitar
- Enjoys teaching and sharing a love of music
